Privacy Policy

The Alternative Gift Registry is owned and operated by the Center for a New American Dream.

New American Dream is committed to protecting your privacy. The bottom line is: We will not give your personal information to anyone without your consent, except if required by law as described below. We will never sell, trade or share your personal information.

The Whats and Wherefores
New American Dream has created this privacy policy in order to demonstrate our firm commitment to your privacy. The following discloses our information gathering and dissemination practices for the Alternative Gift Registry Web site (the "site").

Personal Information
We will release specific information that we have collected from you to comply with valid legal processes, such as a search warrant, subpoena, or court order, or in special cases such as a physical threat to you or others. We will never use or sell information we collect about you for any purpose other than those outlined below. Any cookies placed on your computer will not be used or sold for commercial purposes.

IP Addresses and Cookie Technology
We use your IP address (an IP address is a number that is automatically assigned to your computer whenever you are surfing the Web) to help diagnose problems with our server, and to administer the site. Your IP address is used to gather broad demographic information. On certain Web pages, we may use a certain type of "cookie" — known as a "session" cookie — to help you use our Web site interactively. Cookies are data a Web site can send to your browser. Session cookies are kept in your browser's memory and are removed after your browser session is over. We may use session cookies to improve your interaction with selected pages on the site. We do not use session cookies to track or personally identify users.

If you are concerned about the potential use of information gathered from your computer by cookies, you can set your browser to identify and/or reject cookies. These settings are usually located under "Tools" on your browser toolbar.

What Information We Collect and Why
When you register for the site we ask you to create a username and create a password. We ask for your email as your username because 1) it is unique to you and 2) it is easy for you to remember. We require a password because even if you choose to give us no further personal information, the site is highly interactive and there are several areas where a person might "spoof" (pretend to be you) your identity and cause offense or embarrassment. Your email address is never revealed publicly on the site, though emails can be sent to you via forms.

We ask for your first and last name because of the personal nature of this site and the necessity to provide potential gift-givers with enough information to make sure they are promising to give a gift to the proper person. We ask for you zip code, city and state for demographic purposes and to potentially assist in the functioning of the site. This information is never made public.

Your Consent
By using the site, you agree that New American Dream may collect and use the information described above. If we change our privacy policy, we will post the changes on this page so you are always informed about what information we collect, how we use it, and under what circumstances we disclose it. Your continued use of the site after a change has been posted will constitute your agreement to such change in the privacy policy.

Links
The site contains links to other sites. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or the content of such Web sites.

Security
This site has security measures in place to protect the loss, misuse and alteration of the information under our control. If users have any questions about this privacy statement, the practices of the site, or your dealings with the site, you can email us at info@newdream.org. Site visitors may remove or change their information in our databases and stop all future, direct communications from us by emailing us at the address provided above.
